Spectacular Death Tabbard

Spectacular Death (A-Llane-US) is the total WOW experience with lots of fun at a casual pace. We see and go to all places in the WOW universe from classic to current content, PvP and arena. This is no-pressure raiding at its finest with friendly, helpful people interested in working through all WOW has to offer together. We will never have a realm first in any endgame, but we will have the most fun when we arrive. Our "race" to see everything is more of a saunter with an emphasis on fun. Our guild motto is "Here. Hold my drink and watch this," so you can see where our emphasis lies.

This guild is not for everyone, however. You must review the Code of Conduct before asking to join. It is also recommended that you read our Raiding Guidelines as well.

For any questions about the above information, please talk to Gimmlette or any officer. If you are interested in hopping on the bus for the ride, please fill out our application. You will be contacted by Gimmlette or the membership officer after the application is received.

A Week of Excitement

Gimmlette ao posted Nov 26, 17

If you've had a chance to check out the in-game calendar or the calendar here, you might have noticed the schedule for December is up. The big news is the "Ten Days of Spectacular Death" events. From December 6th through December 15th, we have an event each day. The events correspond to what expansion was active during each year of our existance. We started during the end of Burning Crusades so our first event will be a completely naked Sunwell. There are pets and tmog gear to obtain. No weapons or jewelry or armor will be allowed on this run so bring a toon with lots of bag space for your gear.

We will be doing a Wrath mount run. There are 5 bosses who have mounts: Sartharion, Malygos, Yogg-Saron, Arthas, and Vault of Archavon. Any of the bosses in Vault can drop the mammoth. We won't be clearing Ulduar or Icecrown. We will have cleared up to the bosses so we can just run in, kill the final boss, and hope a mount drops. Sartharion is a guaranteed drop so if you don't have the Black Drake, be sure you mark this event on your calendar.

Our next event will be Cataclysm raids. We will blast through Throne of the Four Winds, to see if that mount drops; before heading to Bastion of Twilight and Blackwing Descent. We'll be doing BWD on heroic so we can get the world's best temporary title. There are pets to be obtained.

On Saturday, December 9th, our first group of people will attack Algalon for Herald of the Titans.

It is absolutely imperative you have listed your toon in the thread AND you're gemmed and enchanted. Tarsan has a great listing for gems, food, flasks and enchants. For the flasks, we need the following ingredients:

Volatile Life (lots)
Azshara's Veil
Whiptail
Twilight Jasmine
Cinderbloom
Stormvine
Heartblossom

For gems, we need the raw versions of:
Cardinal Rubies
Crimson Spinels
Emperyean Sapphires
King's Amber
Lionseyes
Majestic Zircons
Earthsiege Diamonds
Skyflare Diamonds

We also need eel, sagefish and crocolisk to make foodstuffs. Please put all these materials on the gear tab where jewelcrafters and alchemists can access them and make the appropriate flasks and gems. If you don't know what gem you need, look at the post or just ask. Take a look at what enchants are in the bank. You can use pretty much anything. If you'd like something and don't see it on the enchanting tab, just ask. We have plenty of mats to make enchants. Shoulder enchants come from Sons of Hodir and are BoA so if one of your toons is exalted with Hodir, you can have that toon buy the enchant and mail it to your Legacy toon. Leg enchants are leg armor and spellthreads. We also need some Flintlocke's Woodchucker for hunters.

Please understand if we have more people who are available to run and we don't have room for everyone. We will be doing this again in January to make sure those who want the title can get it.

We're down to the prep work to get gear for those running. If you can make ilevel 226 armor, please add that to the gear tab. This will help people who can't get into Ulduar or other raids for gear. We'll do the best we can to get you into raids, but crafted gear is still very good.

That's Herald. Moving on, we will be doing Pet Battles with a twist. We'll be meeting outside Kharanos to do battle. You don't need to bring your team. It will be furnished for you. Please sign up so I know how many pet teams to furnish. We will have all sorts of pets to use.

We will be doing Throne of Thunder and Hellfire Citadel achievements. Throne's achievements are terribly annoying to do but we're going to give it a shot. Many of us need just one achievement from Hellfire for the meta; stupid Mannoroth; so he is sooooo dead.

There will be a guild dueling event on December 12th. We have crafted mounts to give away; a motorcycle, a panther or two, a sky golem. We have rare pets to give away, a stove, a bomb, or two, or pets which drop in raids. Everyone who comes to duel will receive a bag. So many wonderful things for all the guild members who come to duel each other.

Our final anniversary event will be a run of Antorus. Our actually anniversary is Friday, December 15th. So this is a good way to end our 10 days, remembering where we've come from.

Our annual Christmas party is Sunday, December 18th. It's held in Ironforge, in the Explorer's Hall, under the great tree. You MUST bring a wrapped gift. It can be anything which can be wrapped, from gray to legendary. Stacking items can't be wrapped, so a stack of potions won't be possible. The party starts at 8:30. This is a HALF HOUR EARLY.

Other things of note during December, we're going after heroic Helya on Friday. We have to get her down before we move on to other content. If we do not get her down, we'll be after her again on the 21st. Please come, as we need more than 12 people to get through Helya's attacks.

We'll end the month with a by-request Heroes of the Storm event. Meet in Discord at 8:45 so we can group up and run Heroes. You'll need to have Heroes installed. You'll also need to be friends with someone who is running Heroes so we can invite you to groups. We play against the AI, and just have a lot of fun. We will have our Tmog contest on the 29th and end the month with a Miz Special on the 30th.

There's a lot going on. Please sign up. This is a very big month for us. Not many guilds make it this long. We are allowed to whoop it up and celebrate.

Raiding Update

Gimmlette ao posted Nov 21, 17

Where are we with our progression raiding?

Emerald Nightmare has been cleared in both normal and heroic modes.

We have a request to run it again because people have quests in the raid. Please let Tarsan or Mizauki know if you need Emerald Nightmare runs to finish off quests. We won't be doing mythic of this right now. We have other things to finish.

Trial of Valor.

This is Helya under the effects of the Inky Black potion, which you get at the Darkmoon Faire. We have yet to down Helya in heroic mode. We need a good complement of raiders in order to down her. Thirteen is not going to cut it. Not conquering this raid in heroic is one reason we aren't going backwards to do Nightmare in mythic.

There is a quest to get soul fragments for Odyn, but this can be done outside of the raid. There are world quests in Highmountain, Stormheim and Azsuna which offer soul fragments as side rewards. It's a grind, to be sure, to collect 1,000 fragments, but it can be done. Then, you need a group running the raid and downing Helya in order to turn in the fragments. Please come when we put this on the schedule. She's mocking us.

Nighthold.

We have cleared this a few times. We won't be starting heroic Nighthold until heroic Helya is down.

Tomb of Sargeras.

With the arrival of the Antorus raid next Tuesday, Tomb become "old" raiding. We have made it as far as Avatar.

Getting to Avatar is quite the experience.

We have not downed Avatar. It's a complicated fight which we've decided we're not going to attack repeatedly to merely bash our collective heads against the wall for repair bills and little else. We've been working through Tomb on a "What boss would you like to do" process, which has been fun. We're back to Maiden, which is the boss in front of Avatar. When we enter Tomb again, she will be our target.

We've done an Emerald Nightmare achievement run.

We did a Hellfire Citadel mythic run with achievements, but we lack the achievement off Mannoroth.

We've accomplished a lot in the last couple of months. I added a forum thread for raiding needs. Want achievements from Dragon Soul, Trial of the Crusaders, Highmaul? We need to know. Have quests you picked up off your board in your class hall? We need to know. Never saw Sunwell? We can make it happen. This can be from any raid in any expansion. Just add your toon's name and its needs/wants to the thread. This helps us plan what other raiding we can be doing.

Where are we going from here as we look toward progression?

When Antorus opens, we will be there. We will take any toons which meet the minimum ilevel, up to 30 people. You MUST be gemmed and enchanted. We called out people last raid. "But this is an alt" is NOT an excuse. Be a good raider and make sure whatever toon you bring is gemmed and enchanted. I don't want to call people out again. Just show up ready to rock and/or roll. You can see we are checking so don't be one on the call-out list. We have the people who can make the gems and enchants. No excuse.

Start heading there at 8:30. If you wait for the call for invites, you'll be late. I want this guild walking into Antorus at 9:00. Unless you have cleared a late arrival with Tarsan, Mizauki or myself, you will not come if you can't be at the raid location by 8:50. We understand unforseen events which would delay you. This is why there is a sign-up on the in-game calendar. If you intend to come, sign up. We need to have our potions, flasks, and food all done before 9 so we can walk in right at 9. First boss will be "no strats" on the first pull and then we'll talk about his attacks. Just FYI, if you've been to Argus and the Krokul Haven, the first boss is that fel reaver what walks around outside the haven. I'm told, but I told Tarsan to shut up, it has more attacks than what you experience when you beat him up outside the haven.

I'm being stringent on this because we have become more and more sloppy on getting where we need to go and going into raids at our 9 pm start time. Your time, my time, your guild mate's time, is valuable. Most of you want to log off at 11, so you can go to bed because you have jobs or events planned the next day and need your sleep. We don't start earlier because many of you put kids to bed and 8:45 is the earliest you can be online. This is about respecting your time and your ability to experience things with your guild. Therefore, we need to be walking into a raid at 9, not standing at a stone trying to summon someone who is in Duskwood killing a dragon. You need to be aware of the time and stop what you are doing to get to the raiding site. If you meet the ilevel requirements but you don't have the way to the raid opened up, we need to know that at 8:30 and not at 8:50.

I've been grumpy at this guild the last few times we've raided because too many of you are not moving towards the raid site when we know you can get there. I am not asking you to drop everything right now, and grind, grind, grind towards flying or opening up the way to the new raid. Oh lordy no. You do that at your leisure. (I'm not exalted with any faction on Argus. Have I told you how much I "love" that place?) But there's no reason you can't be in Dalaran, ready for a summons if you can't make it to Antorus.

Antorus will NOT become part of the raiding rotation at this present time. We must clear Tomb and heroic Helya. Then we are debating whether to go backwards to clear Mythic Nightmare while continuing to work on Tomb, to start heroic Nighthold and once a month or every 6 weeks Antorus. There's a lot to contemplate with the addition of a new raid. We will be back in Antorus in December, as the last event in our "Ten Days of Spectacular Death" anniversary events.

So, this is what we've accomplished and where we find ourselves right now. Please let us know if you have raiding quests you'd like to make progress on or finish, or there are raiding achievements you'd love to have. And be prepared for Antorus on the 28th. New raid. New bosses to kill. Let's have some fun.

Herald of the Titans

Gimmlette ao posted Nov 21, 17

Much progress is being made on our upcoming "Herald of the Titans" run. For those few who don't know what this is, it's an achievement where you run the Algalon fight in Ulduar

with at level characters who are wearing only the gear which would have been available at that level. This means, level 80's wearing 226 armor and carrying 232 weapons. Nothing higher is allowed. Tarsan has a thread going in the forum where you can see all the tips for gearing up your toon.

We've been doing this on Wednesdays, with an eye toward Saturday, December 9th, as the target date for the first group to attempt the fight. With this in mind, some things you should know.

The officers are meeting on Friday to plan December's schedule. Spectacular Death celebrates 10 years on the 15th and we have "Ten Days of Spectacular Death" planned. It's going to be a lot of fun. If you are looking for help with raids, achievements, 5-mans, let an officer know or post to the "Suggestions" tab in the forum. We'll do our best to create an event for you.

Please, please, please sign up your toon in the "Herald" thread with the class and the spec you prefer to play. If you can be multi-class, put that down. As the time is winding down toward our first attempt, we need to know who is coming and what class they are gearing for. We can take ONLY 10 people at a time, so some people may not go on the first go-through. But, we are looking at, come January, multiple attempts to get this achievement. I have no idea how Ulduar as a Timewalking raid is going to affect "Herald" attempts. We will have to see, but we will be ready for that when it shows up.

Do not feel bad if you just can't get a toon leveled and geared in time for December 9th. Lil' Gimm is only 60 and I don't know if I will be 80 by the 9th. So many other shiny things attracting my attention. We struggled, mightily, with this boss in Warlords. There had been enough class changes, nerfs and buffs, that we could not down him. We will continue working on this boss for everyone who wants to do it. It's such an iconic part of WOW, we want people to experience it. How the fight starts is still, after all these years, one of my favorite openings to a boss fight.

Mizauki, among others, can cut gems. Tarsan has, on the thread, listed the gems which will work best. We have a large number of enchanters who can make enchants for every piece of gear. (I have Epicurian, for instance.) You MUST be gemmed and enchanted. The incremental boosts from gems and enchants are very meaningful for this encounter. Don't hesitate to ask in chat for something you need. We have the materials and the people willing to get your toon to optimal readiness.

We need herbs to make flasks. Herbs and volatiles from Cataclysm are needed. We need food. Fish and crocolisk meat from Cataclysm are needed. Stuff all this onto the gear tab. There is some crafted gear of i226, which may be of use to people. If you can make that level of gear don't hesitate to craft it and stuff it onto the gear tab. Ask if you need mats. We have a lot of stuff stored off-site.Tarsan explains what's needed on the last page of the thread. Please use that, especially the handy-dandy table, to see what we need. If you can make the flasks or the food listed, grab what's donated and create, sticking the final result on the gear tab. Yes, the tab will get messy, but that's a good place for it.

This is a great event. We worked very hard gearing up and learning the fight to get the acheivement for the first 15 people who did this many years ago. I remember the first raid I ever did; original Onyxia. (She needs to be a TW event.) I remember the rush when she died. When Algalon died and we got the achievement, I felt the same rush. It is so very satisfying to put in this kind of effort for something like this. The achievement is useable across all your toons, too, so if you do it on one, your level 10 bank toon can be "X, Herald of the Titans". Thanks, everyone, for helping in any way you can.
